How can we Be There?
Four ways in. You don’t need to understand how we’re organised to find the right one.
THE GAP
Queensland has extraordinary specialist services filled with extraordinary people. But when beds are full, workers are carrying enormous caseloads and funded programs have criteria, there will always be needs that don't fit neatly into a box.
Sometimes what she needs doesn’t fit a funded program, an eligibility criterion or service window.
We exist in the gaps.
$80 for petrol
Someone beside her at court
Clean clothes for her children
A bed. A couch. A table.
Someone to answer the phone
Sometimes the difference between falling through the cracks and getting through the night is simply that somebody is there.
We’re not a refuge. We’re not a crisis line. We’re not trying to replace the remarkable specialist services already doing this work.
We’re the people who can sometimes say yes, when everywhere else has had to say “not yet”, “you don’t meet the criteria” or “we’re at capacity”.
WHAT WE DO
We help when someone needs us, and we give everyone else a way to Be There.
Two halves of the same idea

When someone needs us.
Practical, immediate, in real time.
Practical support for women experiencing domestic and family violence. We move at the speed of need. That might mean answering the call on a Sunday night, driving across town, or sitting in a courtroom at 8am.

When someone wants to help.
Turning goodwill into something useful.
Almost everything we have been able to do this year came from somebody offering what they already had. A Saturday. A warehouse. A truck. A skill. A room full of people. Our job is to turn that into help that actually reaches someone.
MEN AND BE THERE
You don’t have to have all the answers to be part of the solution.
Maybe a woman you care about has told you something and you don’t know what to say.
Maybe you’re worried about someone.
Maybe something was said at work, at the footy club or in a group chat and you’re wondering whether you should step in.
Maybe your mate’s behaviour doesn’t sit right with you.
Maybe you just want to understand what being a good ally actually looks like.
Our Worried About Someone? guide is a practical, plain-English place to start:
what to notice, what to say, and what you can safely do. Fathers, brothers, sons, friends, colleagues, managers, coaches, teammates, employers. This is your invitation in.
OUR FIRST YEAR (SO FAR)
A family. A moment when someone realised they were not alone. This is our first year. We're a new charity and we won't pretend otherwise. But this is what showing up has looked like so far.

PARTNERSHIP IN PRACTICE
Furniture that rebuilds lives.
Be There Foundation has partnered with SourceByNet, a major Queensland furniture supplier who has gifted furniture to women escaping domestic violence. Through this partnership we've sourced and distributed furniture directly to women and families in the Logan, Wynnum and surrounding areas.
For a woman who has fled with nothing, a bed, a couch, a table is not a small thing. It's the first sign that home can mean safety. That someone thought of her. That she isn't starting over alone.
Sometimes rebuilding a life looks surprisingly ordinary.
VOLUNTEER
Be someone who shows up.
Thirty-five volunteers make this happen. What we need changes depending on what the community needs that week. We'd rather know what you're good at and what you can spare than hand you a fixed roster.

She should
never have to
do this alone.
Every act of support here started with someone deciding to do something. A donation that filled a tank. A Saturday spent packing. A business that had furniture sitting in a warehouse. A person who noticed, and didn't look away.
